Last mosaic in the Hagia Sophia--2006 Trip Review

The last mosaic you see when you leave the Hagia Sophia is this one.  The Madonna and Child accept gifts.  Constantine is on the right side presenting the city of Constantinople and on the left side, Justinian is presenting the church itself.

If you aren't paying attention you might walk past it for the exit.  In the past you would have come in through this door.

The mosaics are an intriguing art form.  Always considered the best and most expensive wall covering and a continuation of the great mosaics from the palace floor.
