The debris outside the Hagia Sophia is fascinating. Large chunks of ancient church architecture are lying around full of Christian symbols like crosses and lambs. They are just strewn around near where they had probably been buried after earlier destruction.Many of these carvings deserve to be in a museum. I have often lamented the overload of this ancient debris at a site like this, when it would be a real prize in Mankato (especially in my backyard).
